Blues at Timbuctoo is a day-long festival of music, history and community, staged at the entrance of the “Dreaming of Timbuctoo” Exhibition, underscoring the connection between the Black families of Timbuctoo who settled in the Adirondacks in the mid-1800s and the fabled Saharan city of Timbuktu, Mali in West Africa, a birthplace of American Blues.

his year’s lineup includes Harlem native and Blues legend Jerry Dugger, American Blues and soul blues singer Alexis P. Suter and her six-piece band, and Dave Keyes, keyboardist, singer, songwriter and 30-year veteran of the Blues and American Roots music scenes.

They will be joined by Saranac Lake duo Curt & Kary who play traditional finger-style Piedmont blues on guitar and bass, and by JBL!’s own Anna Forsman, a vocalist who leads The People’s Chorus.

All are invited to settle in at the John Brown Farm, located at 115 John Brown Road in Lake Placid, for a day of music, conversation and camaraderie. Bringing a chair or blanket and packing a picnic lunch are recommended.

Blues at Timbuctoo is free and open to all though JBL! welcomes a suggested donation of $20 per adult. In case of rain, the event will be moved from the upper meadow to under the tent at the site. No refreshments will be sold.

Blues at Timbuctoo is made possible in part by the Essex County Arts Council’s Cultural Assistance Program Grant, with funding provided by Essex County and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
