The asphalt will replace the current stone dust trail resulting in a safer surface for riders and walkers. The project will also address sections of the trail that have ongoing erosion issues.

In December 2020, as part of the Empire State Trail project, the Greenway completed construction of the trail with a combination of paved and stone dust sections. Since then, the Greenway was awarded support from the New York State Environmental Bond Act to finish paving the entire trail.

This effort will result in Albany-Hudson Electric Trail becoming a continuously paved 36-mile rail trail.

Construction is projected to begin in mid-spring and be completed by the end of summer.

Throughout this period, there will be select trail closures, generally occurring between road crossings.

Check the trail website for current updates.
