Adirondack Conservationist Paul Schaefer, Home Builder

Well-known Adirondack Park conservationist Paul Schaefer was also known for building exquisite homes in Schenectady County in his early twenties, crafting over a hundred residences showcasing Dutch Colonial and Georgian Colonial Revival styles from the 1930s.
On Thursday, May 22nd, from 6 until 7 pm Historic Albany Foundation will host a discussion focusing on Schaefer’s notable work at 1608 Lexington Parkway in Niskayuna, NY, designed for Frederick Law and his family.
Adam Williams, the home’s fourth owner since 2022, has dedicated three years to restoring its original features and salvaging period-correct fixtures. He will present photos of the property, efforts to map Schaefer’s works in the area, and insights into Niskayuna‘s evolution from farmland to suburb.
