All Mariah Carey Wants is to Sell Her Penthouse Triplex

One sweet day, Mariah Carey will no longer be the owner of a penthouse triplex in Tribeca.

The pop superstar listed her unit at 90 Franklin Street in Manhattan for $27 million, the New York Post reported. It’s the first time the unit has been marketed since Carey assembled it in 1999 for approximately $9 million, purchasing two units and combining them into one.

The 12,700-square-foot unit spans three floors; the listing works out to $2,121 per square foot. Spread across the 16th through 18th floors of the building, the unit comes with views of the river and skyline, plus 1,100 square feet of outdoor space.

It is also chock full of hallmarks from interior decorator Mario Buatta, who put butterfly motifs in every nook and cranny of the property. It made a famous appearance on “MTV’s Cribs” back in 2002.

Carey does appear to have $18.6 million in outstanding loans tied to the triplex. The pop star borrowed $8 million from JPMorgan Chase in 2009, followed by another $2.6 million from City National Bank in 2015. The following year, she refinanced the JPMorgan loan with a $17.6 million debt, which rose a year later to $18.6 million. The City National loan has been retired.

The listing references Carey as a “former” owner, but the property does not appear to have changed hands since her acquisition. Before buying it, she was rejected by the co-op board at the Ardsley on Central Park West.

Other residents of the property have included Isabel Rose — Heiress to the Rose Associates real estate fortune — and Scott Yedid of Cerberus Capital, who bought Rose’s unit in 2021. The 1915 luxury building includes a 24/7 concierge, a porter, an on-site super, a fitness center and a roof deck.

Carey last made real estate waves in 2022, putting her 12,600-square-foot home in Sandy Springs, Georgia, on the market for $6.5 million, nearly $1 million more than she paid for it a year prior. The nine-bedroom home was burglarized during Carey’s brief ownership stint, though that reportedly didn’t factor into any decision to sell.

Carey ultimately sold the suburban Atlanta home for just $3.9 million in May 2023.
