Ani DiFranco and Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard Reunite for ‘The Message’

The singer-songwriter and Pearl Jam guitarist last collaborated on 2022’s “Disorders”

Three years after teaming up for “Disorders,” Ani DiFranco and Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard are back with “The Message.”

The track features the same lineup as the duo’s 2022 collaboration: DiFranco on vocals, Gossard on guitar, keyboardist Josh Evans, saxophonist Skerik, and percussionist Stanton Moore. It’s a groovy affair, with DiFranco leading the way. “I feel your pain,” she repeats again and again. “Trust me.”

“So fun and amazing to collaborate again with Ani, Josh, Skerik, Mike, and Stanton,” Gossard said in a statement. “Ani’s vocals are transcendent.” Added DiFranco: “The mood started with Stone’s demo and evolved from there. Super fun to team up with some badasses and pull a song out of the air.”

DiFranco, who recently spoke to Rolling Stone for a wide-ranging conversation about key songs in her career, is currently on tour in support of her recent album Unprecedented Sh!t. The first leg of the trek wrapped in Seattle on Feb. 1; she’ll resume touring on March 9 in St. Petersburg, Florida, after she headlines the Cayamo Cruise later this month.

Dana Flor’s DiFranco documentary 1-800-ON-HER-OWN — which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last summer — will screen in select theaters this spring.

Meanwhile, Pearl Jam will kick off a North American tour on April 24 in Hollywood, Florida. One month later, they’ll headline the 2025 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival alongside Kacey Musgraves, Lil Wayne with the Roots, Dave Matthews Band, and Luke Combs.
