Clinton County Commemorating Women’s Equality Day

Women’s Equality Day commemorates the passage of the 19th amendment in 1920 which ensured that no one was barred from voting due to their gender. This meant white women and black women but not Native American women, women who had married non-US citizens and Asian women. That would come later.
Nonetheless, August 26th, 1920, was the finish of a 72-year battle for most women to get the right to vote. The day thanks and recognizes the many women who fought for this right, and offers opportunities to share some of the history that followed, and discuss current issues.
This year Clinton County, NY is commemorating Women’s Equality Day at the Kent-Delord House Museum, 17 Cumberland Avenue in Plattsburgh, at 1 pm with a presentation on the struggle for women to get the right to serve on a jury.
Refreshments will be served. The public is encouraged to attend. For more information allenhomestead@gmail.com
