Hate Crime Reported at Ausable Point Campground

Hate CrimeHate CrimeOn Sunday, October 13 at about 12:35 pm, the Ausable Point Campground caretaker reported multiple swastikas spray painted on rocks leading into the campground, located in the Town of Peru, Clinton County.

Acting Forest Ranger Captain Booth removed the graffiti. Ranger Bode interviewed campground staff and forwarded pictures to the Bureau of Environmental Crime Investigations Investigator Panipinto.

DEC is requesting anyone with information about this hate crime to call 1-844-DEC-ECOS for 24-hour dispatch.

New York State has seen a surge in reported hate crimes over the last five years, with the number of incidents increasing by 12.7 percent in 2023 alone.
