Host A Canal Clean Sweep Event

Parks & Trails New York (PTNY), a nonprofit based in Albany that centers their work on environmental stewardship and advocacy will host their annual Canal Clean Sweep the weekend of April 17-19, 2026.
Thousands of volunteers clean up trails, parks, and waterways along the Erie Canalway and New York State’s many canals. Registration is now open for groups to host or join cleanup events.

Hosting a Clean Sweep event is easy. Guided by local community members or businesses, hosts pick the date, location, and time, and establish a welcoming space for volunteers to come together and make a positive impact along these historic waterways.
PTNY provides basic supplies (for events registered prior to April 7th), such as trash bags, and will even arrange for trash removal.
