Actress Scarlett Johansson and SNL staff writer Colin Jost are moving to a Park Avenue penthouse. As first reported by the Wall Street Journal, the A-list couple paid $13,000,000 for a 14-room triplex at 1220 Park Avenue, a Rosario Candela-designed co-op in Carnegie Hill. The magnificent residence measures 6,000 square feet across three levels and includes six bedrooms, five terraces, and eight balconies.
The sellers are Craig and Deborah Cogut, who bought the Upper East Side home in 2006 for $13,000,000. They first put their home on the market in 2018 for $27,500,000, dropping the price at least four times until it sold this year.
With its own elevator landing, the penthouse takes up the 16th, 17th, and 18th floors of the pre-war building. The first level of the mansion-in-the-sky features a giant living room, a formal dining room, a library, and a kitchen, with landscaped outdoor spaces accessible from every main room.
The kitchen has black granite countertops, white subway tile, and high-end appliances ready for a party, like two Subzero refrigerators, two additional refrigerator drawers, two Viking wall ovens, two microwaves, and two 132-bottle wine refrigerators.
According to the listing, the corner living room features Parquet de Versailles floors, Venetian plastered walls, a wood-burning fireplace, and six sets of French doors opening to Juliet balconies overlooking Park Avenue.
Wrapped in oak panels, the library has views of Manhattan and the Central Park Reservoir and French doors leading to another terrace.
The second floor has four bedrooms, each with a private bathroom and outdoor space. The primary suite takes up the entire third floor. There’s a wood-burning fireplace, a dressing room, and a marble-clad bath with a soaking tub and steam shower, all surrounded by a sprawling terrace with panoramic city and park views.
The 18-story co-op was designed in 1930 by Rosario Candela, the most famous architect of luxury apartment buildings in New York City, found largely on Park Avenue, Fifth Avenue, and Sutton Place. Residents of 1220 Park Avenue have access to a gym and storage facilities.
Johansson bought a two-bedroom apartment in Sutton Place for $2.1 million in 2008 and later sold it for $1.87 million in 2022, according to the New York Post. In 2018, the actress paid $4,000,000 for a property in secluded Snedens Landing in the Palisades.
