Historic Cherry Hill, a historic house museum located at 523 ½ South Pearl Street in Albany‘s South End, has scheduled a Black history tour on Saturday, February 22nd, to celebrate Black History Month and as an historic appetizer to their 2025-2026 season.
“We are celebrating Black History Month by introducing the community to the Black inhabitants of Historic Cherry Hill, which is vital in delivering the stories of everyone involved,” the historic site’s Carol Durant said in an announcement of the tour.
“It is a valued part of our mission to interpret the lives of the formerly marginalized Black residents, which include Dinah Jackson, an enslaved woman who became the star witness in the infamous 1827 murder trial of Jesse Strang, and several other individuals who worked at the site and whose stories are preserved there: Minnie and James Knapp — descendants of Dinah Jackson — Mary Burle, and Clara Patterson. The world of William James Knapp will be the centerpiece of this season’s programming at Historic Cherry Hill.”
The tours start on the hour at 10 am, 1 am, noon, 1 pm; the last tour starts at 2 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Cash, checks and all major credit cards are accepted. Reservations are not required, but are accepted at 1-518-434-4791. Parking is available at the bottom of the Historic Cherry Hill driveway, South Pearl Street, between McCarty Avenue and 2nd Avenue, in Albany’s South End Neighborhood.
