OnePlus Open 2 is not launching this year

OnePlus launched its first foldable with the OnePlus Open in October of 2023 – a device that was for all intents and purposes a global variant of the Oppo Find N3 which launched in China during the same time. With the upcoming launch of the Oppo Find N5 next week in China, expectations were that OnePlus would soon launch the Open 2 as the international version of the Find N5, but that won’t be the case.
OnePlus Open Product Manager, Vale G, confirmed that OnePlus will put its foldable plans on pause and won’t launch the Open 2 this year. According to the post, OnePlus is “recalibrating for innovation”, whatever that entails. This doesn’t mean the brand is quitting the foldables market but is rather taking a break from launching new foldables this year.
At OnePlus, our core strength and passion lie in setting new benchmarks and challenging the status quo across all product categories. With that in mind, we’ve carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices, and we have made the decision not to release a foldable this year.
While this may come as a surprise, we believe this is the right approach for us at this time. As OPPO takes the lead in the foldable segment with the Find N5, we’re committed to developing products that will redefine multiple categories and bring you experiences that are as innovative and exciting as ever, all while aligning closely with our Never Settle mantra. – Vale G. Product Manager of OnePlus Open
The new post confirms that existing OnePlus Open users will continue to receive regular software updates and security patches. This development also indicates that we may very well see the Oppo Find N5 arrive in markets outside of China.
