Starfleet Academy’ Renewed For Season 2 At Paramount+


Brand new series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has been renewed for Season 2 at Paramount+ while Season 1 is still in production.

The early renewal was announced by executive producer, co-showrunner, director and franchise boss Alex Kurtzman on a livestream from the show’s Toronto set during the Star Trek universe panel at New York Comic-Con on Saturday.

It was also revealed that Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) has been cast as a recurring special guest star in Season 1. Her character’s description was kept under wraps however.

Kurtzman was joined on the livestream by Starfleet cast members Sandro Rosta, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané and Zoë Steiner. Paul Giamatti, Holly Hunter and Oded Fehr also star in the series, but were not on the livestream.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy centers on a new class of Starfleet cadets as they learn from their instructors and ready themselves for the role of officer. As they come of age, the cadets navigate friendships, rivalries, love and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

In addition to Kurtzman, Noga Landau also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer. Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa and John Weber also executive produce. Gaia Violo penned the series premiere.

The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. It is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
