Defense Department Inks 10-Year Lease For Long Island Office

The government agency formerly known as the Department of Defense has chosen a Long Island hamlet for its new regional office.

DBD Realty Group signed the department to 23,600 square feet at its 1 Old Country Road in Nassau County’s Carle Place, according to Lee & Associates NYC, which represented the landlord in the 10-year deal.

The government agency, which is expected to move into the five-story office building early next year, was represented by Ralph Guiffre, Vince Lamatta and Richard Freel of CBRE.

Spanning 320,000 square feet, the property has recently undergone a $22 million renovation, which included updates to its façade, windows, lobby, bathrooms, wiring, sprinkler systems, and technology infrastructure, according to the brokerage.

The deal with the government agency pushed the total leased space to over 200,000 square feet. The previous notable lease at the location was announced in 2023, when the Federal Aviation Administration relocated from Queens and signed a 15-year lease in 2023 for over 74,000 square feet.

Lee & Associates principal Kelly Koukou said in a statement the refurbished office property is seeing “strong demand from major institutional and government tenants that value the scale, infrastructure and accessibility the property provides.”

President Donald Trump in September signed an executive order authorizing “Department of War” as a secondary title to “Department of Defense.” Legislation intended to codify the name change awaits full votes in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives after it was advanced by the Senate and House’s Armed Services committees in June.

The defense agency in April 2025 inked a deal to invest $80 million to establish a bioindustrial manufacturing pilot facility in Hayward, California. The deal, which is part of a public-private partnership, targeted a 25,000-square-foot property that sits on a 370,000-square-foot life sciences campus.
