Golden State Warriors Tap P-Lo, Jauz for Tip-Off Anthem: LISTEN
New song reimagines Bay Area legends Zion I’s 2007 song of the same name for a “perfect homage” to Bay Area’s intertwined culture of sports and music
Jauz and P-Lo are linking up to pay the “perfect homage” to Bay Area rap greats Zion I with the help of the Golden State Warriors. On Thursday, the rapper and DJ premiere a reimagining of “Don’t Lose Your Head,” which will serve as a tip-off anthem for the Bay Area basketball team next season.
The new track — linking the two Bay Area musicians — will be played during Warriors games at Chase Center next season. The Dan Franco-directed music video for the track captures the pair of stars riding a Mustang convertible through the streets of San Francisco, stopping by the iconic John’s Grill, before shooting hoops inside the arena.
The song brings a high-energy twist to the Zion I “iconic track” that originally featured Too Short. “We took that unforgettable sample and reimagined it with P-Lo, blending his distinct West Coast rap style with my signature production,” Jauz tells Rolling Stone. “It’s designed to keep Warriors fans moving without losing their heads in the moment.”
“I feel so blessed to be able to make a track for the Warriors. They have been my favorite team since childhood,” adds Jauz. “Getting the opportunity to team up with Bay Area legend, P-Lo, I feel that we’ve created something special that truly captures the energy and pride of our community. It’s a dream come true for me.”
The new single — officially on streaming services Friday — will be released under the Warriors’ own music label, Golden State Entertainment, in partnership with Jauz’s label imprint Bite This! (The Warriors are the only NBA team with a record label and entertainment division.)
“P-Lo and Jauz poured their hearts into this track to pay tribute to the rich legacy of the Bay Area,” says Golden State Entertainment Chief Business Officer David Kelly in a statement. “Playing this song at Warriors games to help fans get moving after halftime is a perfect homage to the culture of the Bay Area.”
This isn’t the first time P-Lo has lent his voice and pen for a Bay Area sports team. Ahead of the 2024 Super Bowl, he linked up with Saweetie for San Francisco 49ers’ track “Do It For the Bay.“
“It’s been an amazing experience collaborating with Jauz to create something that captures the energy of Warriors games and represents The Bay,” P-Lo tells Rolling Stone.
