Gracie Abrams Scoops Up Another Co-op At 1 Fifth Avenue

Gracie Abrams is on track to build a megaunit at 1 Fifth Avenue.
The pop music star bought an 18th-floor co-op at the Greenwich Village building, one year after she purchased an apartment on the same floor for $5.5 million, according to public records. Abrams paid $4.5 million for the penthouse, which was sold by the estate of the late developer Joseph Cotter.
Penthouse 18EF, which was once two separate units, is configured as a one-bedroom with two bathrooms and two terraces. If combined with the singer-songwriter’s other co-op in the building, Penthouse 18GK, the abode could have as many as five bedrooms, five bathrooms and five terraces, some with views of Washington Square Park.
Abrams’ latest penthouse hit the market last March — around the same time she bought her other unit — with an asking price just under $6 million. The price tag was later dropped to just under $5 million before Abrams signed a contract to buy it in December. The apartment last traded in 2022, when Cotter, known for developing projects in upstate New York and in city suburbs, paid $5.4 million for it.
Sotheby’s International’s Martine Capdevielle and Brigitte Goldenberg, who had the listing, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Art Deco building has other two-time buyers, including actress Jessica Lange, who in 2018 bought the co-op directly above one she already owned for $3.3 million. In addition to Abrams and Lange, the 220-unit building is known for its celebrity buyer roster, including musician Keith Richards, filmmaker Tim Burton, actress Helena Bonham Carter and Gwyneth Paltrow’s mom, Blythe Danner.
Amenities in the landmarked building, built in 1927, include full-time doormen and building staff. The property, designed by Harvey Wiley Corbett, was converted into a co-op in 1976, after serving as a hotel for wealthy artists.
