The Black Theatre Troupe of Upstate New York, a nonprofit community theatre company based in Albany and currently in residence at the Capital Repertory Theatre, will present the live stage play Confederates, written by Dominique Morisseau.
The Tony-nominated playwright’s new play explores the reins that racial and gender bias still hold over American educational systems today.
In Confederates two Black American women – an enslaved rebel and a professor at a contemporary university – are having parallel experiences of institutional racism, though they live over a century apart.
Dominique Morisseau is an American playwright and actress from Detroit, Michigan. She has written some dozen plays, three of which are part of a cycle titled The Detroit Project. She received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2018.

Saturday and Sunday Matinees: 4:00 pm
Thursday and Friday Performances: 7:30 pm
Tickets: $27.50 General, $12 Students and $19.50 Military/Veterans and Seniors. Group ticket sales available: Groups of 10-49 people receive a 10% discount, groups of 50+ receive a 20% discount.
