Anti-Science, Environmentalism and SUNY ESF

A virtual panel discussion, “Anti-Science, The Environmental Crises, and the Crucial Role of ESF” will argue for a transformation in a political and economic climate increasingly hostile to science, environmental protection, and public higher education.

SUNY ESF is a public research university headquartered in Syracuse and entirely dedicated to the study of the environment, sustainability, and natural resources. Founded in 1911, it’s the oldest institution in the United States focused on environmental science and forestry.

Panelists will explore how SUNY ESF’s applied research, specialized education, and stewardship of public lands position it as a critical national asset – advancing climate solutions, protecting biodiversity, and strengthening communities – even as its mission faces mounting resistance.

The discussion will confront the threats to SUNY ESF’s capacity to lead, while making the case for why sustained, specialized public investment in the college is essential to counter anti-science forces, uphold evidence-based policy, and prepare the next generation of environmental leaders at a moment of national consequence.

This panel will take place March 3, 2026, from noon until 1:30 pm, ET. Via the virtual meeting Zoom platform. Register here.
