The inaugural 2026 event, titled “All That Sustains Us,” features more than 100 artworks across more than 10 sites and is curated by Kari Conte and Karin Laansoo to bring together artists from around the globe and foster dialogue and public engagement.

“The curatorial framework of the Triennial sits at the intersection of art, ecology, architecture, and rural contexts and considers maintenance not only as a physical act of upkeep, but also as a social, political, and environmental process shaped by fragility and resilience,” according to their website.

“The Triennial brings together artistic practices that examine how civic and ecological systems are structured by labor, regulation, extraction, and repair. At its core, the Triennial asks: What essential efforts and commitments are required to sustain life in our fractured world?”

The event will unfold this weekend across the village’s historic buildings, canal front, parks, and public space Medina is located in the towns of Shelby and Ridgeway, about 10 miles south of Lake Ontario.

The Medina Triennial received recent national attention in an ARTnews round-up of 46 museum shows and biennials to see this summer, and Art in America highlighted the Triennial among 20 art world highlights not to miss this season.

There will be public opening on Saturday, June 6, at 11 am on the front lawn of the former Medina High School, 324 Catherine Street, with a ribbon-cutting followed by a day of extended exhibition hours, artist performances, a curatorial tour, and an opening party.

Opening weekend programs continue on Sunday, June 7, with artist talks and public programs throughout the village. All exhibitions and opening weekend programs are free and open to the public.
