Florida Man Found Deceased in the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area


A man from Florida who failed to check out of his rented cabin in Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks was found deceased Tuesday, according to the New York State Police.
At about 12:30 pm on Tuesday, February 24th, State Police were called about the missing hiker, though to be on the Crane Pond Trail in the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area in the Town of Schroon, Essex County.
According to the report Theodore S. Troth, 51, of The Villages, Florida, rented a cabin at Rowe’s Adirondack Cabins on Route 9 in Schroon Lake on January 25th. He was last seen leaving the cabin to hike the Crane Pond trail on February 19th.
On Tuesday, the owner of the cabins became concerned when he failed to check out as planned and called authorities. There is about three feet of snow in the area.
A search was launched by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers on snowmobiles and State Police, who deployed a K-9 and an unmanned aerial drone.
At about 6:30 pm Forest Rangers found Troth deceased at the south end of Oxshoe Pond, which is accessible from the Crane Pond Trailhead. They said there was no signs of foul play, although the investigation is continuing.
Troth’s body was taken to Glens Falls Hospital for an autopsy.
