Fashion & Textile Symposium Set for Saturday

Fall Fashion & Textile SymposiumFall Fashion & Textile SymposiumGenesee Country Village & Museum near Rochester will host its 2024 Fall Fashion & Textile Symposium, themed “Fashion from Head to Toe,” this Saturday, November 9, from 9:30 am until 4 pm.

This event, which includes virtual presentations, offers a unique opportunity to explore historical fashion with experts, culminating in an exclusive keynote by Nicole Rudolph, renowned fashion historian, shoemaker, and content creator.

The symposium will feature four speakers:

Anna Worden, millinery expert and author, presenting “Unveiling Rural Milliners,” a talk on the 19th-century rural millinery trade;

Tricia Noel, curator at Yates County History Center, discussing “‘A Different Habit’: The Public Universal Friend, Gender, and Clothing in 18th America”;

Wilma T. Townsend, curator of Ontario County Historical Society, sharing insights into “Textiles in 19th Century Ontario County”; and

Nicole Rudolph, noted fashion historian, on “Turning the Shoe Wrong-side Out: 19th-century Construction Revealed,” an exploration of the hidden materials and techniques in 19th-century footwear.

The symposium includes breakfast, lunch, and an exclusive curator-led behind-the-scenes tour of the Bruce & Susan Greene Costume Collection housed in the Museum’s in the John L. Wehle Gallery vaults. Virtual attendance is also available for lectures, and a discount is offered to museum professionals.
