Jolicoeur’s Journey: An 18th Century Winter Adventure

Jolicoeur Charles Bonin was part of a 500-man detachment that left Quebec on January 15, 1754 and arrived at Fort Niagara on February 25th. During their 42-day journey, they marched over ice and snow, crossed icy streams and skated on ice-covered Lake Ontario.
On Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 10 am until 1 pm Old Fort Niagara will host a one-of-a-kind adventure inspired by the memoirs of Jolicoeur Charles Bonin. This interactive program lets you step into the boots of an 18th-century soldier trekking from Quebec to Fort Niagara.
Participants will start a fire with flint and steel; build a brush shelter in the winter landscape; cook a ration of soldiers’ pea soup; and warm up with a hearty lunch in the Fort’s log cabin.
Space is limited. Secure a spot by emailing Marlene Wessel at mwessel@oldfortniagara.org or calling (716) 745-7611 ext. 223.
